The organisations was enshrined by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka Act No. 21 of 1996 and established on 17 March 1996.

Functions

Regarding procedures, infringements or imminent infringements of fundamental rights and to provide for resolutions. To advise and assist and to make recommendations to Government regarding human rights matters and to promote awareness and provide education in relation to human rights.(Section 10 of HRCSL Act21).
